Postdoctoral position in the field of aerosol physics and clouds within the inter-institutional research network "Vienna Network for Atmospheric Research (VINAR)"

with an employment extent of 40 hours per week (full time) limited to 4 years.

The Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) has an immediate vacancy for a postdoctoral position at the Sonnblick Observatory (SBO) in the ZAMG Customer Service Department with 40 hours per week (full-time).

The position is intended for the location Salzburg or Vienna with mandatory 3-5 days per month at the Sonnblick Observatory. Within the research network "Vienna Network for Atmospheric Research (VINAR)" a close cooperation with the University of Vienna, Faculty of Physics, Aerosol and Environmental Physics Group, headed by B. Weinzierl, is foreseen.

Tasks:

  1. research activities in the field of aerosol physics and cloud physics
  2. scientific publications
  3. collaboration in the international WMO program GAW and in the European research infrastructure ACTRIS (AIS - aerosol in situ & CIS - cloud in situ) at the SBO
  4. collaboration in the development of ECCINT (European Centre for Cloud ambient Intercomparison)
  5. participation in calibration workshops and securing measuring certificates
  6. perception of VINAR cooperation

Requirements/Essential Skills: 

  1. unrestricted access to the Austrian labor market
  2. completed PhD in the field of atmospheric physics,
  3. proof of working experience in the field of aerosol physics
  4. language: German knowledge advantageous, foreign language English (spoken and written)
  5. ability to work in a team, sociability, communication skills, goal-oriented and independent thinking and acting
  6. outstanding knowledge in the field of aerosol physics, desirable also in the field of cloud physics
  7. knowledge of scientific operation of environmental measuring instruments, especially in the aerosol field
  8. programming skills (KNIME, Python, etc.)
  9. pleasure in scientific work
  10. project experience is advantageous (collaboration/project management, proposal submission, researchnsupport landscape).

Salary:

Remuneration is based on the salary scale for federal contract employees with classification in v1/1 and depends on qualifications and previous service. The monthly salary is at least EUR 3,050.20 gross in accordance with § 71 (1) VBG for classification v1/1. During the training phase, the salary is lower. It is increased on the basis of the statutory provisions by creditable periods of prior service and other remuneration components associated with the special features of the job.

Start of employment:

April 2022

Working time:

40 hours per week (full time)

With 3 to 5 days per month at the Sonnblick Observatory and regular exchange with the University of Vienna within VINAR.


Duration of employment:

University of Vienna within VINAR.

Limited in time for 4 years. New employees go through a probationary period of one month.
