Grid mode 2

Grid-mode-2 series are absolute values of temperature, precipitation (amount) and solid precipitation (amount and percentage) for topography height on a regular grid of 5min grid-distance ranging from 4° to 19°E and from 43° to 46°N.
The grids are available for each month for temperature from 1780 to 2009 and for precipitation from 1801 to 2003.

The temperature dataset was created by merging high resolution climate mean grids (1961-1990) for each month (Hiebl et al. 2009) and longterm monthly station data. To achieve a similar quality for each of the grids the station data was prolonged to a common beginning in 1780 by using an EOF-method. (Chimani et al.2010).
The interpolation of the anomalies (calculated from the monthly station data) onto the topographie height was done equivalently to grid-mode-1 and using the anomaly-gradient determined by the two layers.

The grids of total precipitation were calculated by interpolating the already existing monthly precipitation analyses of Eftyhmiadis et al.(2006) onto the same grid as the temperature dataset.
For achieving the grids of solid precipitation a statistical relationship between monthly mean temperature and the percentage of solid precipitation was used. (Chimani et al. 2011). The amount of solid precipitation was obtained by the combination of the precipitation grid and the percentage of solid precipitation.
Currently the following grids are available (compressed as bzip2, size between 23M and 58M!) - Fileformat NetCDF
