Austrian GEO Secretariat
As part of GEO, members undergo the voluntary obligation to establish national coordination structures. The Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research established a small national GEO Secretariat in the Central Institute for Meteorology nd Geodynamics (ZAMG).
The Austrian GEO Secretariat has the following tasks
- Participation in the meetings of GEO (in particular the Assembly), and participation in the meetings of the European GEO consultation process in the framework of the EU High Level Working Group (HLWG)
- National Point of contact for persons and institutions interested and/or involved in GEO activities, and coordination of the Austrian involvement in specific GEO tasks
- Identification of needs for research and development related to GEO, and channeling these needs to the Federal Ministry
- Public information related to GEO
- National prioritization related to GEO
- Communication with the GEO Secretariat in Geneva, and with the national GEO Secretariats of other countries
- Support for an Austrian ad-hoc group on Earth Observations, and organization of regular workshops and information events
- Analysis of the GEO-relevant data in Austria, and assessment of the data needs
- Establishment of a GEO Web site, including a forum for experts accesible to all members of the ad-hoc working group
- Support for the establishment of a national GEO implementation plan based on the 10-year plan for the implementation of GEOSS
- Participation, on behalf of the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research, in the Austrian inter-ministerial coordination process related to space research, earth observation and GMES
