Synoptic situation
This RGB composite is very good for differentiating the water and ice phase of the clouds around Italy. We can clearly see that both ice and water clouds are present at the reversed barrage cloudiness. The cyan colours indicating ice clouds are present throughout the daylight hours, and the low-level water phase clouds (pinkish colours) have a sharp edge at the Apennines mountain barrier.
