INSTANT OCCLUSION - SHORT SUMMARY

by ZAMG and FMI

Example

The life cycle of an instant occlusion is shown in the following sequence of three images: The area of interest is north of Ireland and west of Norway. On the 1st of December a Comma cloud is located over Ireland, and a Cold Front extends from Norway to England and further southwest. The Instant Occlusion process takes place during the next 12 hours. During the instant occlusion process, a Comma north of Ireland comma approaches and catches up with the frontal cloud band and finally the two cloud systems merge, giving a visual impression of an occlusion spiral.
