Height Contours 1000 hPa:
The isolines of the low level heigth field are not very distinctive. But in the area south of the Alps an easterly wind
component dominates while north of the Pyrenees the direction of the stream is not very clear. The above does support Barrage Cloud south of the Alps.
Height contours 500 hPa:
In both areas of interest (South of the Alps and North of the Pyrenees) there is a southwesterly stream at upper levels. As there is only low cloud, the wind direction at 5 km height need not be very important for an explanation as to whether
there is Barrage Cloud or not. At least for the area south of the Alps there is no contradiction with the conceptual model.
Wind Vectors 850 hPa:
Wind vectors at 850 hPa clearly support the existence of Barrage Cloud south of the Alps and cleary indicate that the low
cloud north of the Pyrenees is not Barrage Cloud but probably the southermost part of a frontal cloud band.
Wind Vectors 500 hPa:
At 500 hPa there are windvectors from the southwest. As there is only low cloud, the wind direction at 5 km height need not
be very important for an explanation if there is Barrage Cloud or not. At least for the area south of the Alps there is no
contradiction.
